Condolence From: Michael Colborne
Condolence: I meant to post this back in the fall, but I suppose better late than never. Early in 1978 Ellen hired me to work in the Reference Dept at the Halifax City Regional Library. I stayed for the next 20 years, and was always grateful that she had taken a chance on a young librarian with a chequered past. I learned a lot from Ellen, and after she retired, we became friends. I have great memories of dinners at her apartment and visits at the cottage. She knew so much about the history of Nova Scotia, and of Halifax, and our collective memory is much diminished by her passing.

Condolence: Dear Charles, Doug, David, and Ruth
I was sorry to hear of Ellen's passing. I renewed my acquaintance with her when I moved to Halifax in 2003,but hadn't realized she finally moved back to Yarmouth. I remember her interest in genealogy, especially that of your family. We had good conversations about family histories and books. My condolences to you on her passing after a long and full life.

Condolence: I was blessed to have my life touched by this warm, generous, and gracious woman. Her kindness to me, so early in my library career, will never be forgotten.

Condolence: I spent the summer before I went to library school, many years ago, working under Ellen's supervision in the reference room at the old Halifax Memorial Library. I learned a lot from Ellen about the art of reference librarianship. Many years later, after living and working out of province, I returned to Halifax and saw Ellen many times at Symphony Nova Scotia concerts, where we had some lovely conversations at intermission. I am very glad to have known her.

Condolence: I remember delightful conversations with Ellen when she was about to close her apartment on Spring Garden and gave the AGNS a wonderful painting by Mary Ross Kelley of Betty Murree in her wedding dress. Ellen herself was another Nova Scotian treasure.
My condolences to her family.
