GRAY, Donald Ellison- age 87 of Deerfield, Yarmouth Co. passed away August 7, 2017 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in South Ohio, Yarmouth Co., N.S. He was the son of Warren and Irene (Thurber) Gray. Donald was an auto mechanic. He was self-employed and the owner and operator of Deerfield Auto Repairs. He was a former employee of Motor Mart, and Superior Ice Cream and Dairy. He was an avid woodsman, guide, and he thoroughly enjoyed fishing for trout or salmon. He loved to manage his woodlots, collect sap for maple syrup, and camping. Not only was he a master in a canoe, he also mastered the craft of building cedar plank canoes. Donald was a family man with unconditional love for his wife and children and a special spot in his heart for his 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren Donald was an active member of the Pleasant Valley United Baptist Church and a former member of the Board of Camp Peniel. He is survived by his wife Helen (Horton), daughters Susan of Deerfield, Linda (Leonard) Sabine of Pleasant Valley, Judy (Brian) Eldridge of Carleton; sons Steven (Marie Louise), and Kenneth both of Deerfield, Yarmouth Co.; a brother Lyndon Gray of Bridgewater, N.S. Donald was predeceased by a daughter Christine, a son Gordon, sisters Kathryn Doucette and Elaine Mood. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 2:00pm from the Pleasant Valley United Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Cannell officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Pleasant Valley United Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium.
